Quality architecture begins not with the first foundation laid, but with the education of those who will design the cities of the future. That is why Avalon continues its systematic collaboration with the Kharkiv School of Architecture (KSA), supporting the development of architectural education, professional research, and a new generation of specialists.

In 2025, the company joined the ranks of patrons of the Kharkiv School of Architecture Scholarship Fund. For Avalon, this is not merely support for a single educational initiative, but a long-term investment in shaping a high-quality urban environment, as it is architects who will determine what Ukrainian cities will look like after reconstruction.

The partnership extends beyond the scholarship program. Throughout the year, Avalon participated in joint educational projects, including the work of the “Institution” student studio, in which future architects, together with the Kharkiv School of Architecture, the Lviv City Council, and the Avalon team, developed concepts for visitor centers at the Lychakiv Cemetery. Such projects give students the opportunity to work with real urban challenges, the historical context, and the needs of the community while they are still in school.

Another area of collaboration was the career development of young professionals. In 2026, Avalon participated in the “Architecture as a Space of Opportunities” career fair, where more than 120 students from all over Ukraine had the opportunity to meet the company’s team, learn about modern approaches to development, and explore professional growth opportunities. Kateryna Kovalchuk, head of Avalon’s Technical Support and Quality Control Department, also participated in the panel discussion, sharing her practical experience in implementing development projects.

One of Avalon’s scholarship recipients is Kateryna Malaya—a PhD in architectural history and a lecturer at the Kharkiv School of Architecture and the University of Utah. Recently, during the Lviv Urban Forum, she presented her book *Protests Beyond the Plaza: Everyday Spaces, Urban Morphologies, and Strategies*, published by the international publisher Routledge and co-authored with urbanist Nathan M. Hutson.

The book explores how urban spaces influence human interaction, social processes, and community development. It draws on experiences from various countries around the world, and one of its chapters is dedicated to Kyiv during the period of 2013–2014.

“By investing in architectural education, developers are investing in the quality of Ukraine’s future built environment. Today, the demand for housing goes far beyond square meters—people expect a comfortable, well-thought-out environment, shared spaces, and safe infrastructure. That is precisely why high-quality architectural education is crucial. Supporting faculty fellowships allows students to learn from leading experts with international experience and, at the same time, a deep understanding of the Ukrainian context. This is how a new generation of architects is being shaped—architects who will work on the reconstruction and development of Ukrainian cities,” notes Kateryna Malaya, an Avalon fellow, PhD, architectural historian, and co-editor of the book.
